About Home House Interiors

Born & bred in Birmingham, I moved to North Devon four years ago with my family Nigel & two lively boys Charlie & Sam, for a change of lifestyle. We have renovated our 500 year old cottage & set up as a Bed & Breakfast, which has allowed me to leave the pressure of working within a large sales company and I now have the time & energy to follow my passion for interiors.

Lemon Almond Cake With Honey

I found this recipe in this months The Simple Things magazine, which I treated myself to for Easter instead of an Egg! It’s very straight forward to make & tastes absolutely lovely!!

Lemon Almond Cake With Honey, Cake Recipe

Ingredients

225g butter at room temp, 225g sugar, 4 medium eggs, 30g self-raising flour, 35g polenta, 200g ground almonds, 1 tsp baking powder, a pinch of salt, 3 tbsp of honey, zest of 2 lemons, juice of 1 lemon, a handful of whole almonds for decoration (optional), icing sugar for dusting.

1. Preheat the oven to 160 deg C (140 deg fan), 325 deg F, gas 3. Grease and line a 20cm round cake tin, preferably a spring form.

2. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time. In a new bowl, mix the flour, polenta, ground almonds and baking powder with a pinch of salt. Combine with the butter and egg mixture, then mix in the honey and zest.

3. Transfer the batter into the tin and bake for 70 mins. After about 45 mins, remove and put the almonds on top, then continue baking. You may have to bake it slightly longer, your cake is done when a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.

4. Take out of the oven and drizzle with lemon juice. Let the cake cool in its tin.

Sarah’s Flapjacks

These flapjacks tasted SO GOOD, I had to ask my friend Sarah for the recipe. They are quick to make and brilliant to have ready for hungry children after school, after swimming sessions or just for lunch boxes, be warned though, with boys who are hungry all the time, they do go fast, so it’s worth making a double batch!Flapjack RecipeAllow them to cool in the tray to set, before cutting them into squares. I’ve added pumpkin seeds today but you can add chopped apricots or anything else you fancy.

Home House In Croyde

Image

Most of the year we run our home as a bed and breakfast, however for the six weeks of the summer holidays, we rent the whole house out which gives other families and friends an opportunity to have a holiday in our home and enjoy what Croyde has to offer, this then gives us the opportunity to spend some quality family time with our boys.

Here’s what some of our guests said about their stay in Home House last year….

Well what can we say – all The Fishers have returned home with post holiday blues!!
We have loved the area – weather was much better than we had anticipated, so much so we were on the beach every day – including parents of 82 and 88 respectively…
Your home is delightful and your attention to detail fabulous – we all immediately fell in love with the house and felt very much at home and I have certainly taken away a few decorating ideas!! Thank you so much for the very welcome cream tea on our arrival a lovely touch and much enjoyed.
The courtyard area was put to full use and we had a BBQ to celebrate our daughters birthday on the Tuesday.
I think I can safely say that we will be making a return visit next year – so we will be in touch again regarding dates, trouble is other members of the family feel they have
missed out because of the rave reviews so may need your help in accommodating them somewhere!!

Thank you again for everything – superb!

We really loved the house, it was even nicer than we had hoped. I loved the courtyard and spent quite a lot of time there with my book. We’ve all been really busy with work and exams (I got my OU degree offer this morning at your house, it brought me luck – FIrst Class!) so having a lovely home from home was just the ticket.  We all loved the way you modernised the house yet kept that character and sense of history that is often wiped out in renovations…well done!

The scones were delicious and a very thoughtful touch, thank you.  We all had a lovely time at the cottage. It felt very homely, secure and had everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. I will recommend the cottage to others and would hope that we may be able to return in the future.

Happy New Year

Image

2013

It’s a New Year.

It’s time to start again.

Stop thinking about what you’re going to do and start doing it.

It’s time to live your life and be who you are.

Forget about what happened last year and just move on.

Take risks and be yourself, you only have one life, it’s time to make the most of it.

Make a New Years resolution and this time achieve it.

This pretty much worked for me in 2012, Happy New year to you all & here’s to 2013 and all that it may bring us!
